Inmate books and indexes, Marquette Branch Prison, 1879-1940.

Volumes 1 through 5 of RG 88-54. Records from the Michigan Department of Corrections. Includes inmate books(Volumes 4 and 5, 1879-922) that list prisoner name,number, term of sentence, county of sentence, date of discharge, and the crime committed. One volume includes photographs of prisoners long with an overall general description of the prisoner, including age, birthplace, nationality, complexion, hair and eye color, as well as any noticeable scars. A brief criminal history or record is supplied with a list of crimes, aliases used, and the length of sentence. The indexes (Volumes 1-4, 1879-1940) document names and identification numbers for prisoners.
